South Africa expects its next nuclear power plant to come on stream by 2019, two years later than initially planned by Eskom, which has dropped plans to build the facility due to financial woes.
Dec. 5 (Bloomberg) — South Africa, suffering a power crisis that’s limiting supplies to gold and platinum mines, canceled a plan to build a nuclear plant for about 120 billion rand ($12 billion) as a global credit freeze cuts financing.
Koeberg looks increasingly likely to be the site of South Africa’s second nuclear power station. A report released on Monday ruled out building at two Northern Cape sites and said the three other sites Eskom has proposed should be investigated further.
